Thayambaka...

Out of Syllabus 7
It’s a form of art played with different types of Chenda (Drums) and Ilathalam (An instrument which produces a metallic sound). It’s one of the traditional art performed in the temples of Kerala especially during the Ultsavam (Fest). Usually Thayambaka consists of following elements
•    3 Edamthala Chendas
•    1 or 2 Valamthala Chenda
•    1 or 2 Ilathalam
There is also another form called Iratta thayambaka which usually have double the above instruments. Chenda is usually known as Asura vadhyam (Demons drum) due to its loudness. The mixture of these instruments produces a wonderful atmosphere of music. Actually for me hearing a Thayambaka brings a satisfaction of hearing a Metal Song plus something extra which only Thayambaka can provide. That is why I am comparing Thayambaka with a Metal band. Ya I use this post for a comparison between A Metal band and Thayambaka.
Metal band usually consists of following elements
•    A Main guitar
•    2 or 3 Rhythm guitar
•    1 or 2 Base Guitar
•    Drum set
If you look carefully we can understand there are many similarities between them
•    The main guitar provides most of the music and sound. It is the lead of the band. Same way in Thayambaka, 1 edamthala act as a lead role and produces much of the music. The variations in both these instrument is the true music generated.
•    Rhythm guitar has got the duty of providing Rhythm and support to the main guitar. The same way rest of the edamthalas provide rhythm and support to the Leading edamthala.
•    Base guitar is usually used for producing the high bass sounds. Similarly valamthalas are used to produce high bass sound and to control the band especially the tempo.
•    The ilathalam provides the metallic sound which gives it that demonish feel, same as the metal in a drumset.
From this what I understood is that whatever be the band type, Eastern or western, Metal or Rock, all forms of music had got certain bases which are same everywhere…….

2 Days @ Bangalore

2011 is here... and I thought it as a new beginning. And stepped into the toughest phase of an engineer- THE JOB HUNT.  So I attended Wipro Interview through shredskerala. I was shortlisted for Interview which was postponed and rescheduled quite a few times. At last it was fixed on 22nd Jan from Bangalore. Me, Emil, Fazil, Mamooty, Anoop and Prasanth was having the interview. On 21st night me and Prasanth started from Iritty, on Ashoka Travels. But on the way we came to know that it was Hartal in Karnataka. But anyway we decided to go. We reached at Kalasipalayam, at 5.30 and boarded Yelahanka Bus. It was almost an hour away. Soon after we left Majestic Bus station, some stopped our bus. They were yelling like anything and we understood it was the strikers. But thank God we were allowed to go. Reached Papu’s Uncle’s and refreshed. Anoop (Jamban) and also joined us. While we were going to institute we could see burned tires on the road. We went cautiously as Strike could turn out to be nasty. But we reached there safely. Fazil and Mamooty were already there. They came in an interviewer’s car, which they came to know later only. Since my interview was scheduled at 10.00 AM, I went in there. While entering the room I was confused where to go. I found a person in far left corner and went to him. He took some time to complete the paperwork. He checked my resume. I started with self introduction. But he was not going technical. He asked HR questions, I got tensed and blabbed, which gave him more opportunity to hook me up. But I thought once he gets into technical I will feel comfortable. But he never got into technical. All in all I gave a poor performance. I knew I had not passed the interview which was confirmed when he didn’t give HR form. I waited outside for others. Interview got over at 8 evening. Finally when it was over, only Emil from CSE got selected for HR. (Which was no surprise. It would have been a surprise if he was not selected). Mamooty, Jamban and Papu were selected. (All are from EC dept). Me Fazil and Mamooty was interviewed by same person. We returned from there at 8. I decided to go to Fazil’s room. We went to bus stop in Papu’s Uncle’s car. And while we were driving, we missed a person by inches. He was not crossing but walking through the middle of road. He gave us a casual look and walked over. We all felt like kicking him. Guess he was drunk.
Reached Fazil’s room by 10.00. Aby, Anees, Basil, Me, Mamooty and Fazil was there. Next day we decided to hangout. We went to Forum mall and started our usual business- Ogling. Prasoon and Sooraj joined us. Then we went to LALBAGH, where flower show was going on. There was huge rush. But away from all the rushes, in benches spread around in the park, we could see couples enjoying their day out. Hmmm!!! Reminded me of visit to Lumbini Park with Nithin and Emil. We got some shots at couples who crossed the limit [;)]. After few wandering and Photo sessions we entered for flower show. There was huge rush and so couldn’t see anything properly. We got out and then Adarsh also came. We decided to return. We got into a bus which turned out not into our direction. All steeped down but I couldn’t. Bus moved and I didn’t know what to do. But Fazil called and told were to step out. I got down out Forum mall and waited for others. Thank God the bus was going through that way. Else I would have been lost in the city. Since it was only 7.30, I decided to return back home. This turned out to be right decision. Well two days we were back like in LBS. Enjoyed a lot. When I reached home, I realized how much I miss my friends. Wish all could be together once again. Knows it is not possible. As someone rightly told “In college we play with our life, but outside it, Life plays with us”...
